In The Time Of Clayton Kershaw

One of my favorite quotes comes from Odysseus who said “If they ever tell my story let them say that I walked with giants. Men rise and fall like the winter wheat, but these names will never die. Let them say I lived in the time of Hector, tamer of horses. Let them say I lived in the time of Achilles.” There are a few players that define a generation. And in this generation one of those players is Clayton Kershaw. We will speak of the season that Kershaw is having this years for generations to come. He is unquestionably the best pitcher in baseball.

Earlier this season Ksrshaw might’ve pitched the greatest game ever. And it was undoubtedly the “perfect” no-hitter (Hanely Ramirez committed an error in the 8th inning to end Kershaw’s run at a perfect game). Kershaw had a career high 15 strikeouts; the third most strikeouts in a no-hitter. Kershaw’s Game Score that night was 102 second highest in baseball history (second to only Kerry Wood’s 20 strikeout game). Furthermore, Kershaw is the only pitcher in MLB history to strikeout 15 without allowing a hit or walk. It was a game for the ages.

It’s incredible the season Kershaw is having since it was off to rough start when he injured his shoulder. He missed the first month of the season. Even through missing out on a few starts Kershaw was the first pitcher to 16 wins. He will be entering September with an ERA under 2.00 for the second straight season. Kershaw is also entering the last month of the season with a WHIP of 0.84 Kershaw pitched his third straight 10K game. Kershaw has the highest WAR of any baseball player (his current WAR stands at 7.0). Kershaw is only 6 strikeouts behind the leader Strasburg. Also for the first time this season he faced the bases loaded. We are in the month of August!!! What’s even crazier is that Kershaw hasn’t given up a hit with the bases loaded since May 26,2013.

The great Vin Scully has dubbed Dodger Stadium the ” Magic Castle” and let me tell you there is something magical that is going on with Clayton Kershaw. Every night he takes the mound you expect to greatness. And Kershaw has been able to deliver night after night. It wasn’t that long ago where Kershaw was having trouble just making out of the 5th inning because if his pitch count, those days are long past. We are witnessing a pitcher in his prime dominate the game of baseball like we haven’t seen before. He has the Dodgers in first place of the division and with the best record in the National League. Clayton Kershaw will win his 3rd CY Young this year. The question, however, is can he will the NL MVP? If I had a vote, I would vote for him.

The day will come when we will say “Let them say that we lived in the time of Clayton Kershaw”.
